Wyndham - Five river lookout and grotto in the East Kimberleys

Dear lookout lovers,
On Day 20 of our West Coast trip after our day into the Bungle Bungles Charlotte and I got ready to depart the rest stop area at 9am. I drove us 3 hours (270km) to Wyndham in the East Kimberleys.

I headed for the Five River lookout which we have been told by Carol that it is really nice. There you find the whole history of Wyndham on just two signs.

The lookout was alright. Not as spectacular as expected, especially as the rivers didn't carry as much water as during wet season.

So after some lunch and a fuel stop we also encountered these signs. Cyclones are very common in this area during wet season and fires during dry season. Ehm, who wants to live in such an environment???

On the way back to the highway we stopped at the Grotto and descended the man-made steps to find a nice little hidden pool. But we only had a brief stop there.

Charlotte drove us the next 100km to Kununurra, the last/first town in Western Australia as shortly we would cross the border to the Northern Territory. Funny fact: when you enter WA you are not allowed to bring in any fresh fruits or vegetables, no plant or seed material, no soil, no bee products and probably a few more things. The border towards WA is guarded 24 hours and apparently all vehicles will be checked for the above mentioned and for other things like cane toads. When you leave WA and enter the Northern Territory (NT) they don't care at all! You can take whatever you want with you.

But we wouldn't leave WA as yet.
Our next stop: Lake Argyle!
