I am in... well, not Sydney but Saigon

Good morning,

Markus and I have landed in Saigon (Ho Chi Min City) in Vietnam at 7am local time. So it was 1am in Germany. We couldn't sleep very well in the plane and are quite tired now.

Our ticket includes a transit which means that Vietnam Airlines got us a Day-Visa, brought us to a hotel where we are staying now until we get picked up for the organised city tour. With two hours spare time we try not to fall asleep but we do not want to go out ourselves. It's over 25 degrees Celsius outside, the traffic is absolutely INSANE and we do not know exactly what to expect from the locals as we have not seen any tourists walking along the streets.

UPDATE:

We are back from our city tour and it is CRAZY here! It's hot and humid, million of motorcycles are on the road (our tourguide confirmed that there are about SIX MILLION motorcycles in Saigon) and everyone is trying to sell you something (really annoying).

Here some impressions:
This is a picture taken from our hotel room. They are having lunch next to the road.

Markus and me in our hotel room with the "nice" stickers of our tour operator.

Us in front of the Maria statue at the roundabout in front of the Little Notre Dame of Saigon from 1880. It is actually built completely with materials from France! We did not go inside.

The famous French Post Office of Saigon designed by Eiffel (YES, the Eiffel from THE Eiffel Tower in Paris).

This is the picture of Ho Chi Minh, the founder of the communist party. This picture is inside the Post Office which is open every day.

This is the Opera House. We were not even allowed to stop there, so just a shot driving by.

The Town Hall of Saigon, due to lots of security measures we also did not stop there.

Traffic is absolutely crazy. With the help of our tourguide we made it safely across the road to the center of the roundabout and back.

I think this looks great!

The famous market called Ben Thahn in the middle of the city. It is really huge, very sticky inside and lots of people who want to sell you something (you can find almost everything in there).

This is the market from inside. There are about 20 entries into this massive hall, so do not get lost in there.

We ended the tour a bit earlier because we were really tired, not only from the little sleep of last night but also from all these impressions. Maybe I can also upload one of the videos we made when crossing the road.
Next stop: SYDNEY!!! Yours Saigon-visiting Stefanie
