Katherine - Gorge lookout, hot springs and lots of birds

Dear bird lovers,
On Sunday the 13th of July I drove the last 110km to Katherine where we headed for the Visitor Information Center. Luckily we were able to use their FREE Wifi for half an hour and so we connected to the world again! We had no internet for the last ten days. After some grocery shopping anf fueling up we drove to the Nitmiluk (Katherine Gorge) National Park for lunch at 1pm. There we were surrounded by bats just hanging around in the trees...

Then we went for a short walk up to the Baruwei Lookout. We had to climb some fairly steep stairs to get there but it was definitely worth the view you had onto the Katherine River.

At 2pm we were already back at the carpark where we saw a few nice birds around. I am kind of into birds right now.

Back in Katherine we went for a very refreshing swim in the Hot Springs (especially on such hot days and after a nice walk) which is absolutely for FREE.

About 60km further North of Katherine we turned into Nitmiluk National Park again to Edith Falls. We went for a very short swim in the Lower Pools. Why? First of all the water was a bit cold, secondly because the water was so dark and we were afraid of crocodiles that might get past the traps and into the pool!!!

So we left at 5pm and Charlotte drove the last 50km to Pine Creek where we decided to stay at the Lazy Lizard Caravan Park for the night. We had some nice spaghetti with sliced sausages, carrots and kidney beans for dinner and went to bed at 9pm.
Our next stop: Kakadu National Park!
Yours despite-fearing-crocodiles-swimming Stefanie
