Exmouth - Visiting Cape Range National Park

Dear beach lovers,
On Sunday Charlotte drove us about 150km to Exmouth where we had to fill up our Tankgirl near the Visitor Information Center where we got lots of information about the area. After a short visit to a small market we set off to the Cape Range National Park. We first stopped at Hunters Beach, apparently good for surfing but this day the waves were not too high.

Then we drove a little bit back to Surfers Beach to have a look at the wreck of the Mildura but due to the high tide you couldn't really see much. It's not as impressive as the wreck on Fraser Island anyway.

We drove further on into the actual national park and had a look at the bird-hide. We didn't see any birds but a spider. AHHH!

A quick visit to Mangrove Bay for lunch. Check.

And then off to Tourquiose Bay which was a lot nicer and fairly busy with people going for a snorkel in the reef. As the tide began to go back we decided against snorkeling and drove to Oyster Shack for some sunbathing until 3pm.

Here you see a little part of the range that gives the national park its name.

I drove us back towards Exmouth where we stopped at the Vlaming Head Lighthouse with a good view around the Ningaloo Reef. Sadly we didn't see any whales which should be around this time of year.

Due to the low tide the wreck of the Mildura was much more visible this time.

As Charlotte, Bastian and I would be out the full next day and Laura would have to spent the day alone with her injured foot we decided against a cheaper camping place in the National Park and stayed at the Ningaloo Holiday Caravan Park in Exmouth instead. There we saw some interesting birds. (Seriously, nothing interesting about the caravan park except for the very slow FREE Wifi.)

After a short visit to the IGA in town we had fried potatoes with carrots and lentils on salad for dinner before we settled for an early night again. Because the next day would be very exciting.
Our next stop: a swim with WHALESHARKS at Ningaloo Reef!!!
Yours beach-hopping Stefanie
