Shark Bay - Hamelin Pool and photoshooting at Shell Beach

Greetings to all history and photoshooting lovers,
On Wednesday the 25th of June we got up at 7:15am and left the caravan park at 8:40am to be just in time for the pelican feeding. Only problem: no pelican turned up...

Quite disappointed to have gotten up so early to not see any pelicans we settled into the van and Bastian drove three hours straight to the Billabong Roadhouse where we girls got a picture taken.

At the Overlander Roadhouse we had sandwiches again for lunch before we headed left into the Shark Bay Heritage Area. We stopped at the Telegraph Station. This plays some important part of the communication of Australia with the world and especially during wartimes.

Not far away is the Hamelin Pool where you will find stromatolites. Practically the first liveforms on earth who made it possible for more complex creatures to develop. This area is literally some billion years old! Can you imagine? Well, they do not look as spectacular though.

After this stop into Australian and Earth history we stopped at Shell Beach. Yepp, a beach formed entirely of tiny little shells. And we girls went crazy on taking pictures...

On the way towards Monkey Mia we spontaneously decided to stop at Eagle Bluff, famous for spotting marine life - but not in winter...

After some discussions we decided to only drive up to Denham for another fuel stop (did I mention how awfully fuel-consuming our Tankgirl is?) and stayed at the Shark Bay Caravan Park. In this heritage area free camping is absolutely not permitted. We had Instant Asia Noddles for dinner and spotted this little fella in the kitchen. AHHHH!

After that shock we settled for an early night again. This time I slept on the third mattress that we have while Bastian uses the other two mattresses in the back of the van. My back was really happy and luckily the night was not too cold as well.
Our definite next stop: Monkey Mia!
Yours stromatolites-admiring-and-Shell-Beach-photographer Stefanie
