Servus
folks,
This
morning I was especially excited about our next stop at the Cooberriepark
Wildlife Sanctuary as you are allowed to actually hold and cuddle a koala!!! We
got there by 11am and shortly after entering the sanctuary we were quite
disappointed by the making of the surroundings and the cages as well as of the
number of animals. They promised in the leaflet over 300 animals and most of
them were ducks, farm animals and parrots... Also the kangaroos were not as
exciting and not as many as in the Billabong Zoo but we fed them anyway with
joy.
Most of the
animals were sleeping or hiding due to the heat (about 34 degrees Celsius).
There is an interactive animal show daily at 1pm and this is also the time
where you can hold the koala (for an additional fee of 20 AUD per person). So
we waited patiently until 1pm and were rewarded with also holding some other
animals like a bearded dragon, a snake (AHHH!) and an “owl” (it looks like one
but we were told that it is not one).
And after
that we were allowed to hold the koala for a couple of minutes:
These 20
AUD were absolutely worth every cent! This was a dream for me for many years
and it felt great and I was certainly VERY HAPPY. The koala was nice, clean,
with a very soft, good smelling fur and the claws didn’t hurt at all.
Well, after
the show we went around for a last look and then got into the car for another
long drive up North. Over 500 km to our next stop: Airlie Beach!
Yours
koala-hugging-and-happy-bunny Stefanie :-)
