Hi there
hiking fans,
This
morning we checked out of our hostel (Wake Up Hotel, close to Sydney Central
Station) and got back to the airport to pick up our rental car. We had a few
issues with it because they want to charge us 400 AUD as one-way-fee because we
will drop off the car in Cairns and not return it to Sydney. But in Germany we
specifically asked about this and we have been reassured that we do not have to
pay this fee. We need to clarify this but got the car anyway. We drove towards
the Blue Mountains in rainy weather. Yes, exactly: it RAINED!
And it is
actually quite cool, so when we stopped in Wentworth for lunch at the Blue
Misty Café (really nice food and lots of vegetarian options but only few seats
available) we changed back into long jeans and put on some long-sleeves. During
lunch it really poured down and it even hailed! We drove to the Wentworth Water
Falls just when it was dry again. Lucky us! It was a very easy 10 minute walk
to this lookout to have a good view to the fall. The views there are – despite
the bad weather – absolutely amazing.
We walked
around a bit and arrived at the Scenic World at 4:15 pm, too late to do all the
rides, so we searched for an accommodation and found a room in the Blue
Mountains Backpacker Hostel. It is quite cold outside, and due to the rain
there are muddy puddles everywhere. Although we only did the most touristic routes
and had not the time to go deeper into the Blue Mountains I really think this
is a stunning nature reserve. If you ever come here, plan to spend more time, get some good outdoor gear and go walking, hiking, trekking, climbing,
whatever.
Tomorrow we
will go to the Scenic World to do all the fantastic rides like the Skywalk with
the glass-bottom or the steepest Railway and the Scenic Walk through the
rainforest.
Yours Blue
Mountains-visiting Stefanie
