Tasmania - Falls, sand dunes and secret lake

Howdy partners,
We all had breakfast at 6am and headed to the west coast of Tasmania at 7am. After some driving and picking up some lunch to take with us we stopped for an easy but muddy three-hour walk through the rainforest to the Montezuma Falls.

This one was much more impressive than the other two from the day before. There is a very wonky bridge construction so you have a good view of the falls but only two adults at a time are allowed on this bridge. Well…

We had lunch in the picnic area and as we wanted to head for the toilets we saw a huge black snake and quickly turned around. I did not have my camera with me unfortunately. It might have been a Tiger Snake which is very venomous and there are warning signs in different places in regards to them. So nobody got near it. Anyway, we had some more driving to do to get to another stop at the sand dunes of the west coast which change all the time due to the wind. Some did a dune jump and then we run down a fairly steep sand dune.

After that we planned to get straight to Strahan but Renate our tour guide met the police man who promised her to show her a hidden lake he has rediscovered recently. Some of us changed into their swimwear and went for a very refreshing swim in this huge lake. I went in myself but have no proof of it.

After that we finally made it to Strahan Backpackers at 5pm. We cleaned our muddy shoes and trousers, got a shower and at 7:30pm had a BBQ together which was really nice and good for getting to know each other better. After that we headed to the small beach for the sunset.

Our next stop for the next day: Launceston!
Yours sand-dune-running-and-hidden-lake-swimming Stefanie
