Tasmania - Falls, Mount Field NP and bushfire detour

Hi there everyone,
On Tuesday morning five persons got picked up at my hostel and we had to navigate through the rush hour in Hobart to pick up another five people until our coach was full with the tour guide Renate and 21 persons. Then we set off to a small village to grab some lunch to take with us and after some driving we arrived at some rainforest for an easy walk past the Horseshoe Falls and the Russels Falls.

On the way we saw a Pademelon which is even smaller than a Wallaby and apparently only exist in Tasmania. After another hour drive we arrived at Lake St. Clair in the Mount Field National Park for our next self-exploring walk around the lake. I walked with the two Dutch girls. It was quite nice but not really spectacular.

When we got back to the meeting point we got told that a bushfire has started exactly on the way we wanted to head and even some people were missing. So we waited for another hour to get some more information on the situation and if we had to detour around the fire zone. At 3pm the fire was still not under control so we had to partly head back towards Hobart and then go north via Miena.

On the way we did a few stops at the Great Lake, the Pine Lake and some lookouts to stretch our legs in between the very long drive.

In the evening at 8pm we arrived at a camping ground at the foot of Mount Roland were we stayed for the night. I had some nice dinner and also some very interesting conversations with some of the other tour guests. As we had to get up before 6am the next day (did I mention that I HATE getting up early?) we all went to bed very early for our next definite stop: Strahan!
Yours bushfire-detouring Stefanie
