Cheerio folks!
You will not believe it but just as I walked back to the house with the three kids from the playground I saw a flock of black birds at the driveway entrance of the second house to the left of our house. And they were BLACK COCKATOOS! I got the kids in quickly, told my host mother that I have to take some pictures of them, grabbed my camera and ran out again. I took as many pictures as I could before they all flew off after just 5 minutes. These are the best ones. Not spectacular but I am happy.
Aren't they beautiful? The thing is that since I am into birdwatching (of ALL the things that you could get into in Australia I got into birdwatching. Not surfing. NO!) I found out that these Carnaby's Black Cockatoos are endangered, you only find them in the Southwest and they actually rely on conservation programs to sustain. Having seen them again and being able to take some more pictures of them actually made my day. WHY? It is like seeing Australian Sea Lions: they are the rarest of its kind, you only see them in Australia and only in some spots as well. So it is very special. In regards to these cockatoos it is if even more special because not everybody knows they are endangered.
But you and me, we both know that this is truly special, don't we? :-)
Await my next stop in just two days: a self-drive indulgence tour to the Swan Valley!
Yours endangered-cockatoo-photographer-and-happy-bunny Stefanie
